Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka Share Family Night with Their Twins at Family Equality Gala…

Neil Patrick Harris recently enjoyed a special family evening alongside his husband, David Burtka, and their 15-year-old twins, Gideon and Harper. The family attended Family Equality’s Night at the Pier Gala on May 11 at Chelsea Piers, where they happily posed together on the red carpet.

During the event, Harris and Burtka were honored with the Luminary Award for their visibility, advocacy, and continued support of LGBTQ+ families. The recognition was presented by fellow fathers Elton John and David Furnish, both longtime advocates for equality and family inclusion.

The couple began dating in 2004 after a chance meeting on a street corner. In 2010, they announced they were expecting twins through surrogacy, and later that year welcomed Harper and Gideon. The twins later participated in their parents’ 2014 wedding in Italy. Although Gideon was originally supposed to serve as ring bearer, he famously chose to become the “orange boy,” handing oranges to guests while dressed in a tuxedo and top hat.

Harris previously shared that getting married was important partly because it helped give their children a clearer understanding of their parents’ relationship. Speaking on The View in 2014, he explained that referring to Burtka as his husband felt more meaningful and understandable for their kids than terms like “partner” or “boyfriend.”

Over the years, fans have watched the twins grow through social media posts and public appearances. Most recently, the family attended the Broadway premiere of The Lost Boys on April 26. Harris, a co-producer and investor in the production, wore a red blazer paired with a graphic tee, while Harper coordinated in a red mini dress with lace tights and a black mesh top. Gideon sported a black blazer with a red-and-black button-up shirt, and Burtka completed the family’s coordinated style with a black coat and red tie.

The family also continued their tradition of elaborate Halloween costumes last October, dressing as characters from the Indiana Jones franchise. Harris shared a faux movie poster titled “Indiana Jones and the Family of Doom,” featuring the family and their dogs, along with the playful tagline: “If Halloween had a name… it must be Burtka-Harris.”
