Cult actor Donald Gibb, known for playing the unforgettable “Ogre” in the 1980s favorite Revenge of the Nerds, has passed away at 71.

 

According to TMZ, who spoke to his son, Travis, Gibb died Tuesday evening due to ongoing health complications at his home in Texas. The son said Donald was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Moreover, the son said Donald loved the Lord and his family, friends, and fans with all his heart. The family has asked for prayers and privacy during this difficult time. adding that their father will be missed and forever remembered.

Born in August 1954 in New York City, Donald Gibb pursued a sports career at first, playing college football and briefly spending time with the San Diego Chargers. However, an injury led him to change his course in life and pursue an acting career.

He earned his breakthrough in the 1980 action comedy Any Which Way You Can, directed by Clint Eastwood. Some years later, Donad Gibb starred in the cult classic Revenge of the Nerds, starring as the unforgettable character “Ogre.”

The actor reprised the role in the 1987 sequel, Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise, and in the 1994 TV movie, Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love.

Cult actor Donald Gibb dies at 71

Donald Gibb’s larger-than-life appearance and characteristic voice became somewhat of a trademark. He stood 6-foot-4, becoming one of the most memorable tough guys in Hollywood.

Not least after starring alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 1988 film Bloodsport, playing the martial artist Ray Jackson, which became another fan favorite.

Other credits include television appearances in hit shows such as The X-FilesCheers, and The A-Team. Donald Gibb also starred in many films, including Hancock8 of Diamonds, The Biggest FanThe Lightning Bug, and Grind.

His most recent role was a supporting role in Justin Kuhn’s boxing thriller Hands.
